MHAPGC Programs

SAFETY TEAM: Initiated in 1985, this program for elementary school students provides specialized instruction by experts in personal safety, decision-making, and self confidence. Children are taught common sense safety measures that enable them to feel safe in school, at home, and in community environments. One-hour sessions are conducted in county schools by a team of police, fire, medical, and mental health professionals. Educational support materials are provided by Doctors Community Hospital.

KIDS ON THE BLOCK: MHAPGC, in partnership with The Mental Health Association of Maryland and the Mental Hygiene Administration, offers this pupil education program for children in grades Kindergarten through 5th, using puppets as the performers. The curriculum explains mental health problems, teaches children to understand feelings, provides them with an introduction to problem solving, and encourages them to talk to a trusted adult.
* $150 - one 30 minute - 45 minute performance
* $200 - two back-to-back 30-45 minute performances
* $50 per performance - any additional 30-45 minute performance(s) at a specific venue
* $200 per performance - special 50-60 minute show (e.g., small assembly) -
BIPOLAR DISORDER FAMILY EDUCATION SERIES: Offered quarterly by MHAPGC, DimensionsHealthcare System, and NAMI.

BIPOLAR DISORDER SUPPORT GROUP: Weekly 6pm meetings for patients only are led by a certified counselor/MHAPGC board member and offered in partnership with Laurel Regional Hospital.

OPERATION SANTA: Sponsored by MHAPGC for over 20 years, this program provides donated gifts to youth in county facilities that may not otherwise be remembered during the holiday season. This expression of caring reminds them that they are loved and valued by their community. Private citizens as well as community groups donate and wrap gifts that are given out during a holiday party.

MHAPGC PUBLIC EDUCATION: Public education seminars, workshops, conferences, and training for citizens and professionals are offered throughout the year on topical subjects such as Depression, Anger Management, parenting, and Stress Management. Funded in part by the Mental Health Authority Division o fthe Prince George's COunty Department of Family Services.

PLANNED GIVING: Provides an opportunity for supporters of MHAPGC to make gifts to the Association. Such gifts can be received during the donor's lifetime or may be designated as part of their estate. Educational seminars and printed materials outline the benefits of charitable giving and explain why MHAPGC is deserving of their gifts.
