MHAPGC Advocacy Efforts
The mission of The Mental Association of Prince George’s County Inc. (MHAPGC) is to work in cooperation with the National Mental Health Association and the Mental Health Association of Maryland toward victory over mental illness through the development of a volunteer citizens' movement to advocate for improved care and treatment of persons with mental illness; for improved methods and services in research, prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness; for improved public attitudes toward mental illness; and for the promotion of mental health in the community.

Assure that humane, affordable, and effective mental health services are available to all who need them.

Persuade local, state, and national policy makers that mental health needs should have their highest level of commitment and support.

Work to have consumers, family members, and advocates involved in planning, mentoring, and evaluating mental health services and health care reforms.

Convene and participate in coalitions to improve the mental health of individuals with mental disorders.

Lead efforts to achieve parity in insurance coverage for individuals with mental disorders.

Work to end prejudice, stigma, and discrimination against persons with mental illnesses.

Support initiatives to change social conditions that exacerbate or increase the risk of developing mental illness.
